ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris baseball concluded an important stretch of seven games in four days Tuesday with a road split at Northwestern in UMAC baseball action.
Game 1: UMM 4, UNW 1
Thomas Eckstein had an impressive start on the mound for the Cougars as he went seven strong innings to get the win. He allowed only one run on four hits and struck out five.
Michael Head came on in the eighth and tossed two scoreless innings, only allowing one hit, to record his first career save. UMM got all of the runs they would need in the first inning.
Trent Johnson and
Bryce Jergenson led off the game with back-to-back singles. Johnson advanced to third on Jergenson's base hit.
Jackson Gessell's sacrifice fly to center, scored Johnson for the game's first run. Later,
Mack O'Neil delivered a two-out RBI single to right to plate Jergenson for a 2-0 Cougar edge. UMM added a run in the fifth.
Nick Peterson produced a two-out RBI single to, again, score Jergenson to extend the lead to 3-0.
Julien Shadle added a pinch hit RBI single in the seventh.
Game 2: UNW 15, UMM 6
The Cougars trailed 7-1 after two innings. A five-run fourth pulled them within 1 at 7-6, but Northwestern answered with four more in their half of the fourth to take control of the contest. Jergenson, Gessell, O'Neil, and
