MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris football team (1-5, 1-3 UMAC) rallied late but ultimately fell to the Northwestern Eagles (2-5, 2-3 UMAC), 23-13, Saturday night at Big Cat Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 7:37 left in the first quarter, Payton Bowdry scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 6-0. Following the touchdown run, Blake Mitchell missed the extra point to keep the score at 6-0.
- Bowdry then capped off a 13-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run with 10:18 left in the first half. After the touchdown, Mitchell connected on the extra point to give the Eagles a 13-0 lead.
- As time expired in the first half, the Cougars had a touchdown pass called back due to offensive pass interference.
- The score remained 13-0 until Mitchell connected on a 31-yard field goal with 12:30 to play in the fourth quarter.
- With 9:54 remaining in regulation, Drew Shipley scored on a three-yard touchdown run to put the Cougars on the board. UMN Morris was stopped on the two-point conversion.
- On the next UMN Morris drive, Shipley then found Nathan Sheridan for a six-yard touchdown pass to bring the Cougars within three at 16-13 with 6:03 to play in regulation.
- Damon Clapper threw a 15-yard touchdown to KJ Downey to put the Eagles up 23-13 with 2:50 to play.
NOTABLES
- Drew Shipley started his first game at quarterback for the Cougars.
- Shipley finished the night 24-for-40 for 341 yards and touchdown pass. He recorded a 59-yard pass to Mark Chapman.
- Three Cougars tallied at least 10 tackles with Marcos Luna posting a 12-tackle night (six solo, six assists).
- Chapman caught six passes for 175 yards, while Branden Carlson caught nine passes for 108 yards.
