ST. PAUL, Minn. – The UMN Morris volleyball team (14-11, 7-1 UMAC) closed out the 2019 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season with a 3-0 loss (25-10, 25-20, 25-6) at Northwestern (20-7, 7-1 UMAC) Wednesday night. Despite the loss, the Cougars finished as tri-conference champions with Northwestern and St. Scholastica.
Northwestern is the No. 1 seed in the UMAC Tournament followed by Minnesota Morris and St. Scholastica. The Cougars will host the Saints in the UMAC Tournament semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. inside the Cougar Sports Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles set the tone early in the first set by jumping out to a 7-2 lead. The Cougars brought the first set within four points at 9-5, but the Eagles continued to attack and finished out the opening set with a 25-10 win.
- The second set saw UMN Morris take a 7-2 lead over Northwestern, but the Eagles chipped away at the Cougar lead and ended up taking a 13-12 lead. The two teams went back-and-forth down the stretch and ultimately Northwestern took the second set, 25-20.
- It was all Northwestern in the third set as the Eagles took a 13-1 lead over UMN Morris. The Eagles used a 9-0 run to take the third set, 25-6, and the match victory.
NOTABLES
- The 2019 title is the second in program history, the Cougars also split the conference title in 2013 with Northwestern.
- Morgan Miller finished the night with five kills, one ace and two blocks.

The Cougars close out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 1, at UW-Stout. The match is slated for a 6 p.m. start in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
