MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris football team (1-8, 1-6 UMAC) was unable to overcome a halftime deficit against St. Scholastica (7-2, 5-2 UMAC) as the Saints topped the Cougars, 47-29, on Senior Day at Big Cat Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints scored a pair of touchdowns to take a 13-0 lead over UMN Morris into the second quarter.
- St. Scholastica then tacked on three more touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 34-0 lead over the Cougars.
- UMN Morris got on the board with 11:19 left in the third quarter as Nathan Sheridan completed a 1-yard pass to Brady Jergenson.
- Joseph Loija then returned an interception for 12 yards to make it 34-14 with 6:43 to play in the third quarter.
- After the Saints made it 40-14 with 3:57 to go in the third quarter, Drew Shipley found Branden Carlson for 30 yards with 54 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
- Following another Saints touchdown, Marcos Luna tallied a safety on the Saints to make it 47-23 with 6:26 to play in regulation.
- Shipley then connected on a four-yard touchdown pass to Carlson to bring the score to 47-29 with 3:26 to play in regulation, but the Cougars were unable to convert the two-point conversion.
NOTABLES
- Shipley was 26-for-45 for 336 yards and two touchdowns.
- Carlson caught eight passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
- Mark Chapman had six catches for 96 yards.
- Along with his 12-yard interception, Loija led the Cougars with 12 tackles (five solo, seven assists).
- Luna tallied 10 tackles (six solo, four assists) on the afternoon.
