WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team (1-0) tallied a 9-1 victory over D'Youville (0-6) to open the 2019 season on Monday, March 18. Blake Haugen recorded four RBI in the win for the Cougars.

Minnesota Morris got on the board early in the contest as Haugen scored on an error in the bottom of the first for the 1-0 lead. Then after D'Youville tied things up at 1-1 in the top of the second, Minnesota Morris responded with eight runs to secure the 9-1 win.

The Cougars took back the lead in the bottom of the second on a sac fly from Alex Baumann to make it 2-1.

Haugen then picked up his four RBI as he recorded a two-run double to left center field in the fourth inning and then he singled to center field to score another two runs in the sixth inning.

Blaise Fairbanks added to the lead four-run sixth inning with a single up the middle to score more Cougars.

Minnesota Morris capped up off the scoring on a Nick Peterson single to the pitcher in the eighth.

On the mound for the Cougars, Michael Head pitched six innings for the win. On the day, he allowed just one run, struck out nine, and scattered seven hits. The Cougar bullpen allowed two more hits in the final three innings of work.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, March 19, against Maine-Farmington. The doubleheader gets underway at 11 a.m. (EDT)
