AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team (2-3) dropped both games in a doubleheader against the Hope College Dutch (8-0) on Wednesday.
The Dutch took the first seven-inning game, 6-2, before tallying an 8-0 shutout victory in the finale.
Game One Recap
Hope College got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning as Jordon Fairchild hit a sac fly to center field to score the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Trace Slancik singled to right center to score a pair of runs to make it 3-0.
The Dutch then added a run in the sixth and two more runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-0.
With the Cougars up to bat in the bottom of the seventh, Blake Haugen and Brian Vanyo both crossed home plate on wild pitches to bring the game to 6-2, but the Cougars weren't able to score again.
Thomas Eckstein struck out a pair of batters and allowed four hits in five innings of work. Also on the mound, Kyle Hastings struck out three in two innings.
Game Two Recap
The Dutch scored five runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back en route to their 8-0 win in the finale of the doubleheader.
Hope then added another three runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 8-0.
For the Cougars, their offense was limited to just two hits in the game.
Minnesota Morris is back in action on Friday, March 22, against Lawrence. The game is set for 1:30 p.m. (EDT) in Auburndale, Florida.
