Knights Take First Game, Second Game Suspended

Carleton defeats Minnesota Morris, 9-2; teams will continue second game on April 19

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team (2-8) took on the Carleton Knights (3-6) in a non-conference doubleheader Sunday evening. The Vikings took the first game by a score of 9-2 before the second game being suspended after seven innings of play complete with the score tied at 5-5. Game two of the doubleheader will resume on Friday, April 19, in Northfield, Minnesota.

Game One Recap

After 3.5 innings of scoreless baseball, Carleton took a 2-0 lead over the Cougars in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Minnesota Morris responded with a two-run single to left field from Thomas Eckstein to tie things up at 2-2.

With the game tied at 2-2, Carleton rattled off seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 9-2 in favor of the Knights.

Game Two Recap

The Cougars struck first in game two with an RBI from Brady Jergenson in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0. Then in the third inning, Josh Doss doubled to left field to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead over the Knights.

Carleton got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs to tie the score at 2-2. The tie game didn't last long as an error from the Carleton shortstop scored Nick Peterson in the bottom of the fourth.

With the score at 3-2 in favor of the Cougars, Jergenson hit a two-run shot to left field to extend the lead to 5-2 after five innings.

Carleton responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game once again, this time at 5-5.

Neither team would find the go-ahead run down the stretch and the game will resume in the top of the eighth inning on Friday, April 19, in Northfield, Minnesota.

The Cougars are slated to host Valley City State on Wednesday, April 3, at 2:30 p.m. in Morris, Minnesota.
