DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team (3-17, 1-7 UMAC) dropped a pair of games at St. Scholastica (17-8, 8-0 UMAC) Saturday afternoon. St. Scholastica won the first game 11-1 in seven innings before posting a 9-4 victory in the finale.
For the Cougars in the opener, Josh Doss went 3-for-3, which included a double, to pace the offense, while Alex Baumann went 3-for-4 in the second game.
Game One Recap
St. Scholastica jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the second then added a pair of runs in the fourth. The top of the fifth saw the Cougars get on the board on a single to left center from Mack O'Neil.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, the Saints added four runs to build their lead to 9-1. The score remained at 9-1 until the bottom of the seventh when St. Scholastica scored twice to secure the 11-1 victory.
Game Two Recap
The Cougars got on the board first in the second game on a Baumann double down the right field line to make it 1-0 in the third. The Saints then tied things up in the bottom of the third.
St. Scholastica then added three runs to take a 4-1 lead after five innings of play. Trailing 4-1 heading into the sixth, the Cougars scored twice to bring the score within one. For the Cougars in the sixth, Doss walked in a run and then Cooper Grashorn reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Blake Haugen.
The Saints got back a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 5-3 game.
After Baumann scored on an error in the seventh, St. Scholastica scored once in the bottom of the seventh and then three times in the eighth to take a 9-4 lead.
The Cougars are back in action on Monday, April 22, at home for a doubleheader against Martin Luther. The doubleheader gets underway at 1:30 p.m. at Cougar Diamond.
