Cougars Split Final Day of Trinity Tournament

Volleyball falls to No. 17 Trinity (3-0); defeats Neumann (3-0)

SAN ANTONIO – The Minnesota Morris volleyball team (1-3) closed out the Trinity Tournament splitting its two matches Saturday afternoon. The Cougars fell 3-0 to No. 17 Trinity before tallying a 3-0 win against Neumann.

HOW IT HAPPENED | 3-0, Trinity (25-14, 26-24, 25-23)

  • In the first set, the Cougars cut the deficit to five at 17-12, but then Trinity rattled off seven-straight points to build a 24-12 lead. UMN Morris tallied a pair of points before Trinity secured the first set victory, 25-14.
  • Trailing 14-9 to the Cougars in the second set, Trinity outscored UMN Morris, 8-3, to tie things up at 17-17. The two teams went back-and-forth down the stretch, but the Tigers were able to overcome a 23-21 deficit to take set two, 26-24.
  • The Cougars took a 20-15 lead over the Tigers in the third set, but five-straight points from Trinity tied things up at 20-20. Down 23-22, the Tigers scored three-straight points to capture the third set, 25-23, and the 3-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED | 3-0, Minnesota Morris (25-17, 25-14, 25-20)

  • The Cougars opened up the first set with a 25-17 victory over the Knights. After the giving up the first point of the first set, the Cougars never trailed again in the opening set.
  • UMN Morris scored the first four points of the second set and then took a 10-1 lead en route to a 25-14 victory.
  • Unlike the first two sets, Neumann kept things close, but the Cougars scored five of the last six points to secure the 25-20 victory in set three and the sweep of the Knights.
