MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team battled against a talented University of Wisconsin-Superior team on Saturday and limited the Yellow Jackets to just one goal in the first half. Eventually, the depth and explosiveness of the visitors was too much as UW-Superior scored four times in the second half of a 5-0 victory. The loss drops the Cougars to 1-2-1 (1-2-1 UMAC).
Though UW-Superior had a number of chances in the first half, they only successfully scored once. That came in the 12th minute on a free kick from Miguel Ocampo. His effort hit the crossbar and ricocheted down where it hit goalkeeper
Jake Peterson and bounced in.
Things changed after halftime as the Yellow Jackets struck for their second goal in the 48th minute. After an initial team save off the line, Blake Doyea was able to punch it in from close range to make it 2-0. More goals in the 58th, 71st, and 87th minutes closed out the scoring.
The best scoring chance for the Cougars went asking earlier in the 87th minute when
Carter Watkinson hit the crossbar with his header after a corner kick.
Peterson made eight saves on the day for Minnesota Morris. Watkinson and
Corbin McCall each had a pair of shots.
The Cougars are back in action on April 21 with a trip to Crown College. The men's match in St. Bonifacius starts at 5 p.m.
