MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team had plenty of shots on goal, but none were able to find the back of the net in a 5-0 loss to Bethany Lutheran College on Monday. The Cougars are now 3-3-1 on the season and in the UMAC.
A pair of first-half goals from BLC's Thijs Middeldorp gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead at the half. Minnesota Morris had four shots on goal from
Carver Hammond,
Carter Watkinson,
Charlie Peterson, and
Devon Thompson, but Viking goalkeeper Mason Steffen was there for the stop on each attempt.
A three-goal outburst in the span of four minutes from Bethany Lutheran essentially put the match away early in the second half. The Vikings scored in the 50th, 51st, and 53rd minutes to take a 5-0 lead. Cougar shots on target from
Isaac Kauffman and
Corbin McCall were once again stopped by Steffen to preserve the shutout.
Jake Peterson was charged with the loss in goal despite making eight saves in the match.
Minnesota Morris wraps up the regular season on Saturday with a trip to the College of St. Scholastica for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The seeding for the UMAC Tournament will be determined after the completion of play on Saturday.
