DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team was shut out by the College of St. Scholastica, 4-0, to close out the regular season on Saturday. The Cougars fall to 3-4-1 on the year and in the UMAC and will go into the UMAC Tournament next week as the No. 6 seed.
The Saints took command of the match with three goals in the first half. Finigan Huffington opened the scoring in the 15th minute and Keegan Chastey added an unassisted goal to double the lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute. Chastey then added an assist on a goal from Collins Wachira in the 31st minute. The Cougars had three shots in the first half from
Devon Thompson, but his one on target was saved by AliReza Basiri.
An attempt early in the second half from
Carver Hammond was again saved by Basiri and the match remained 3-0 for most of the remainder of the match. The Saints tacked on one final goal in the 80th minute on a penalty kick and a late shot from
Carson Friestad was also saved by Basiri to preserve the shutout.
Minnesota Morris will take the No. 6 seed into the UMAC Tournament and will host No. 7 seed University of Northwestern on May 5 at a time yet to be determined.
