RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team jumped ahead early in the match on Monday at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, but the Falcons piled on the pressure from there and were rewarded with three goals to earn the come-from-behind 3-1 victory over the Cougars.

In the sixth minute, a goal kick from Bernadette Cienik was controlled by Harper Toward and she then charged through midfield and attempted a through ball. The pass deflected off a UWRF defender and into the path of Kim Peters who then outran the Falcon defense and slotted home for a 1-0 lead for Minnesota Morris.

The tying goal came in the 11th minute as Alexis Peterson hit a shot that sailed in over the head of Cienik, off the crossbar, and down over the goal line to knot it up. Though the Falcons numerous chances, Cienik had six saves in the first half to keep it 1-1 at the break.

Just past the midway point of the second half, UW-River Falls was awarded a free kick in the midfield. On a call that could have gone either way, Madyson Shew was judged to have stayed onside as she worked her way clear and deposited it past Cienik for the 2-1 lead. Shew then closed the scoring with about five minutes to play, scoring off a rebound after Cienik had made the initial save of a Falcon shot.

Peters ended the match with two shots, both on goal. Monica Calderon also had two shots, one of which was on frame. Toward had the other shot on the day for the Cougars. Cienik ended the match with 10 saves.

Minnesota Morris plays back-to-back matches in Moorhead this weekend, heading up to take on Concordia College (MN) on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Cougars will be back the next day for a neutral-site match with Nebraska Wesleyan University beginning at 11 a.m.
