Hill’s Brace Lifts UW-Superior over Women’s Soccer

Kamryn Hill scored on either side of halftime to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team put up a challenge against the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday but were unable to get anything past UW-Superior keeper Jenna Lang. Goals in each half from Kamryn Hill were enough to lift the Yellowjackets to a 2-0 win. The Cougars drop to 2-6-2 (2-2-2 UMAC), while UWS improves to 5-3-2 (5-0-0 UMAC).

The scoring started early in the match as the Yellowjackets were able to counter some early pressure from Minnesota Morris and turn it into a break down the right side of the field that was finished off by Hill in the fourth minute off an assist from Mya Holmquist. The Cougars grew into the match from there and delivered a number of chances that had everything but the finishing touch. Lang made one save on a Harper Toward shot and two against Kim Peters in the first half. The best chance for the Cougars may have been on a scramble in the box, but a Jadyn Sondrol shot was blocked on its way toward goal.

UW-Superior enjoyed much more possession in the second half but the game was well past the hour mark before the Yellowjackets added onto their lead. In the meantime, Peters had another shot knocked away by Lang and two Bella Toth efforts were also handled. Hill then finished things off with a goal in the 77th minute with an assist from Emma Fornengo. The Cougars managed only two more shots after that and neither ended on target.

Bernadette Cienik finished with 11 saves in the match and Caroline O'Donnell made one save in a brief cameo in goal. Peters had five shots in the match (three on frame) and Toth added four (two on target).

Minnesota Morris now heads on the road to face Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato on Oct. 5 beginning at 3 p.m.
