Women’s Soccer Shuts Down North Central, 2-0

A sturdy defensive effort and the first two collegiate goals of Bella Toth’s career lifted the Cougars to victory on Saturday.

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team nabbed an important three points on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over North Central University. Following the win, the Cougars improve to 3-8-3 (3-4-3 UMAC).

Minnesota Morris made a statement of intent early on with a shot from Jadyn Sondrol after 15 seconds and a shot from Bella Toth that forced a save in the fourth minute. Toth then collected her first collegiate goal in the 25th minute on a shot from the right wing that sailed high over the head of North Central keeper Abigail Herbolsheimer with an assist to Sondrol. Monica Calderon later had a shot carom off the cross bar.  Bernadette Cienik made a pair of saves in the half to keep the Cougars up, 1-0, at halftime.

With a slight breeze behind them in the second half, Minnesota Morris mostly kept the Rams pinned back on their heels throughout the final 45 minutes. North Central attempted only two shots in the second half and both were off target. On the other end of the field, the Cougars attempted a total of 17 shots as a team and Toth scored her second on an assist from Ayla Wicklow.

Cienik made two saves to collect her third shutout of the season. Toth finished with 12 shots in the match (seven on target), while Sondrol had six shots. Both Wicklow and Calderon finished with three shots each.

Minnesota Morris plays its final non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon in St. Paul against St. Catherine University at 3:30 p.m.
