SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team had its six-match unbeaten run come to an end on Friday night with a 6-0 loss at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
With a strong breeze at the backs of UW-Superior in the first half, the Yellowjackets attacked early and often. Blake Perry opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a brilliant goal with the outside of his boot. The ball advanced down the right wing quickly and a ball played back to Perry was finished into a corner.
UW-Superior doubled its lead in the ninth minute with a tap-in from in front of goal by Mackie Ringrose. Just before the end of the first half, a 41st-minute header at the near post from Gavin Watkinson made it 3-0.
Though Minnesota Morris had more opportunities to move forward in the second half, the Cougars were unable to put anything on the scoreboard. UW-Superior added a goal from Phillip Eriksen in the 63rd minute, another from Jake Kidd in the 78th minute, and a final tally from Ryan Tomsche in the 83rd minute.
Lucas Harmon made five saves in the match and
Nick Isensee added a pair in the late stages.
Minnesota Morris wraps up the regular season with a match in Ashland, Wis. tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m. against Northland College.
