MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team did everything but score on Friday, frequently getting forward and putting shots on goal against Northland College. However, the play of LumberJills goalkeeper Elysabeth Lough and the crossbar combined to stymie the Cougars and hold the teams to a 0-0 draw. The results puts Minnesota Morris at 2-5-2 (2-1-2 UMAC) on the season.
The first shot of the match from Minnesota Morris came four minutes in off the foot of
Harper Toward and was a prelude to what was ahead. Lough ended the opening 45 minutes with 10 saves, including at least two in a frenzy in front of goal after a Cougar corner kick in the first 15 minutes.
The second half continued the frustration for the Minnesota Morris offense. The Cougars had two shots hit the crossbar and bounce back, as well as a shot from
Matteya Borah in the final two minutes that Lough got a hand to and pushed up against the crossbar and out.
Kim Peters finished the day with eight shots (four on goal).
Jadyn Sondrol added five shots (three on target), as did
Monica Calderon (one on goal).
Bernadette Cienik had her second shutout of the season with four saves.
Minnesota Morris finishes up a three-match home stand tomorrow by welcoming in the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 2 p.m.
