MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team fell to Augsburg University by a score of 8-1 on Monday afternoon.
Carver Hammond opened the scoring in the first minute of the contest, but the Auggies swarmed the Cougars from there, unleashing a total of 38 shots in the match. Tomas Menna knotted the score at 1-1 in the 11th minute and Kebba Janneh scored in the 26th minute to stake Augsburg to a 2-1 halftime advantage.
Augsburg doubled its lead less than two minutes into the second half on a PK from Nick Zuchowski to make it 3-1. Jorge Radilla and Tomas Piza then each scored in the 50th minute to grow the advantage to 5-1. The Auggies added two more tallies before the hour mark and scored their final goal in the 78th minute on a second penalty kick, this time from Mizael Harris.
Nick Isensee made eight saves in the contest for Minnesota Morris. Hammond finished with two shots in the match, while
Cooper Jones and
Micah Winningham added one apiece.
The Cougars travel to Moorhead on Sept. 8 for a 3:30 p.m. match at Concordia College.
