Isensee’s Penalty Save Highlights Men’s Soccer Draw with Northwestern

The Cougars and Eagles battled to a 0-0 tie on Saturday following a penalty save from Nick Isensee in the opening minute of the match.

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw for the second match in a row on Saturday, tying the University of Northwestern in the team's penultimate home match of the 2023 campaign.

While possession was fairly even between the two sides, total shots drastically favored Northwestern. Fortunately for Minnesota Morris, Nick Isensee was up to the challenge throughout the match, starting in the opening minute. A penalty drawn by Garrett Miers was taken by Tim DeLoye, but Isensee got low and made the stop. That would be the first of three saves by Isensee in the first 45 minutes.

Isensee was even busier in the second half, called upon to stop seven shots. As the clock ticked under 20 minutes, the sophomore keeper stopped a pair of shots from Miers in quick succession and later added a fingertip stop of a shot from Curtis Tinjum. When the Cougars were able to get forward, Tommy Ellis had a shot saved by Kyle Dipzinski in the 61st minute and Carter Watkinson later fired wide from distance. The final save from Isensee came with 20 seconds remaining on a tame effort from Grant Janowiec as things wrapped up scoreless.

Minnesota Morris is back at Cougar Field tomorrow, making up a non-conference contest with Oak Hills Christian College that had been postponed earlier this season. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
