MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team fell in its home finale on Saturday to the University of Northwestern, 7-1.
The first half was controlled by Northwestern from the outset. The Eagles attempted 25 shots in the first 45 minutes, with 10 of those on frame. Megan Corbett opened the scoring on an assist from Megan Kohrt in the seventh minute and Briellea Babcock doubled the lead in the 12th minute on another assist from Kohrt. Haley Mersberger notched her first goal of the afternoon in the 20th minute, followed by a goal from Kohrt in the 28th minute. Destiny Payan closed out the first-half scoring with a 41st minute strike.
Kohrt picked up where she left off with a 50th-minute goal that was assisted by Megan Moeller. Things leveled off after that as Minnesota Morris ratcheted up its intensity and were rewarded with the eighth goal of the season from
Kim Peters on a shot that hit the crossbar and then came straight down past the line to make it 6-1. Mersberger added a second goal in the 78th minute, pinging a shot off the left post and in.
Peters finished the day with four shots (three on target), while
Kay Von Behren attempted three shots with one on goal.
Danielle Reinhard made seven saves in the match, while
Chantel Peralta came on in the second half and made six.
Minnesota Morris will finish off the 2023 campaign with a pair of road matches. First up is a trip to Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon to take on North Central University at 1 p.m.
