MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team were unable to produce many chances in a 4-0 defeat to Bethany Lutheran College that included a pair of deflected goals for the Vikings.
Bethany Lutheran opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a nicely-worked combination of passes between Daniel Almeida and Gijs van Eldik.
Burke Sheppard very nearly tied the match in the 16th minute, but his shot from outside the penalty area was saved by a diving Nick Lundberg to keep the Vikings in front.
The lead was doubled in the 24th minute on a corner kick from Bethany Lutheran that took a Cougar deflection into the net to make it 2-0. Lorenzo Falleti added one more before the break with a curling effort from 15 yards out.
Minnesota Morris proved to be stouter in the second half, but Bethany Lutheran was able to tack on one final goal in the 75th minute when a shot from Raheem Graham took a deflection to get past
Nick Isensee for the final goal of the afternoon.
Sheppard finished the match with two shot attempts while Isensee made six saves.
Minnesota Morris will go on the road this weekend, facing the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m.
