MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team grew into Saturday's match with the University of Wisconsin-Superior, but the Yellowjackets had staked their claim to the win by scoring three times in the opening half hour. Though the Cougars pushed for a goal in the second half, UWS came away with a 4-0 victory at Cougar Field. With the loss, UMN Morris moves to 1-5-0 (1-1-0 UMAC).
The Yellowjackets attempted 13 shots in the opening half while allowing none from the Cougars. Mackie Ringrose opened the scoring for the visitors in the seventh minute off of feeds from Harry Ambler and Andy Rowland. Jake Kidd struck in the 22nd minute and Gavin Watkinson added another in the 29th minute, both coming off assists from Ringrose.
An unassisted goal from Joel Thomas in the 69th minute finished off the scoring for the day. Minnesota Morris attempted five shots in the second half, with efforts from
Cooper Jones and
Dominik Cantu-Polster forcing saves from the UW-Superior keeper.
Nick Isensee made 12 saves in the match for the Cougars.
Minnesota Morris heads to Crown College on Sept. 19 for a 4:30 p.m. first kick with the Polars.
