Men’s Soccer Faces Shutout on the Road

SAINT BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Men's Soccer team battled Crown College in their second matchup of the season. The Cougars fell 0-3 to the Polars.

The Cougar offense got rolling early, challenging the Crown defense with a shot on goal from Brett Bartkowicz in the first minute of the match. Cooper Jones followed that with a shot in the fourth minute that went wide right. The Polars opened the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute and followed with a second one in the 17th minute. Crown continued to take shots but their 2-0 lead did not increase thanks to the Minnesota Morris defense. Nick Isensee and Kenyon Ponce both made scoring attempts late in the first half that were unsuccessful and the Cougars trailed 0-2 going into halftime.

The second half remained scoreless until the 67th minute despite shots from Bartkowicz and Aaron Mackall. Crown managed to sneak an unassisted goal past Isensee to expand their lead to 3-0. Both teams raced to score, with shots for the Cougars coming from Tommy Elis, Jones, and Burke Sheppard in an attempt to get a mark on the scoreboard. Crown kept Minnesota Morris scoreless in the second half, and the game retired with the Polars leading the Cougars 3-0.

Bartkowicz and Jones both took two shots on the day, with Bartkowicz placing one on goal. Isensee, Mackall, Sheppard, and Ponce also took a shot on goal each. Issensee totaled up three saves on the day in net for Minnesota Morris.
