SAINT BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Women's Soccer team fell to Crown College in their second matchup of the season. An early goal sealed the victory for the Polars.
Crown applied offensive pressure to the Cougar defense early, taking their first shot in the fourth minute and scoring an unassisted goal in the 6th minute of the match to jump to an early 1-0 lead.
Greta Keffer took the first shot of the day for Minnesota Morris in the 11th minute. The Polars continued taking shots at the Cougar net, but
Danielle Reinhard was impenetrable in the goal.
Bella Toth took her first shot of the day in the 38th minute, but missed wide right. The first half retired with Crown leading 1-0.
The second half remained scoreless for both teams, thanks to five saves from Reinhard in goal and the intense effort of the Cougar defense. However, the Minnesota Morris offense was stagnant in the second half. Shots came from Toth and Keffer late in the half, but did not find the goal for the Cougars. The final whistle blew with the Polars still leading 1-0.
Toth and Keffer both took two shots for the Cougars. Reinhard played all ninety minutes in the net, allowing one goal but making eleven saves on the day.
Women's soccer will take the weekend off and resume action Oct. 22 on the road against Martin Luther. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 pm kick-off, and will be the last road game of the regular season for the team.
