MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Women's Soccer team from the University of Minnesota Morris traveled to take on the North Central Rams. The Cougars recorded their first victory of the season, and left the pitch 1-2-1 in conference play.
The scoring opened early for Minnesota Morris when Johnette Nagbe scored in just the third minute of the game. Nagbe's goal was assisted by teammate Chantel Peralta. Continuing to keep the pressure on the Rams, the Cougars added a second goal in the fourteenth minute. Bella Toth, assisted by Sophia Montoya, launched the ball past the North Central keeper to put Minnesota Morris up 2-0. Despite multiple attempts to score from the Cougars, the rest of the half remained scoreless.
Minnesota Morris was quick to add a third goal to the scoreboard less than a minute into the second half. Maddy Anderson found the back of the net with an assist from Nagbe to widen the scoring gap in favor of the Cougars. Not letting up on the Rams, Minnesota Morris continued to hammer shots at the North Central net with no success. The Rams were unable to score on the Cougars, and the match retired at 3-0 in favor of the visiting Minnesota Morris Cougars.
Nagbe finished the day with seven shots, found the net for one goal, and one assist. Toth, Anderson, Madysen Johnson, and Fiona Chinavare all finished the game with two shots. Toth and Anderson each had one goal apiece for the Cougars. Danielle Reinhard stood in goal for Minnesota Morris for 71 minutes and made five saves. CJ Frear-Boerner manned the net for nineteen minutes, stopping two shots.
The Cougars will hit the road again Oct. 5 for a 4:30 pm kick-off against the University of Northwestern.
