Roseville, Minn. - Coming off their first win of the season, the University of Minnesota Morris Women's Soccer team traveled to take on the University of Northwestern. The Cougars fell to their tough conference opponents.Â
The Eagles attacked the Cougar's goal early, managing several shots to the net before scoring their first point in the 16th minute of the match. Johnette Nagbe attempted the first shot for Minnesota Morris in the 24th minute, finding the goal but being unable to get past the Northwestern keeper. The Eagles scored their second goal in the 26th minute in an impressive offensive display. Nagbe made another attempt at the Northwestern net, but was once again foiled by the keeper. Northwestern dominated possession for the rest of the half, and scored their third goal in the 42nd minute to take a 3-0 lead going into halftime.Â
Northwestern showed their offensive prowess with shot after shot on the Cougar net, but Danielle Reinhard was steady for Minnesota Morris in goal. The Cougar offense was able to provide the Eagles' defense with a challenge as Madysen Johnson, Rylie Lovec, and Nagbe all took shots on goal that were saved by the home team's goalie. Northwestern put the game away with their fourth and fifth goals in the 71st and 74th minute respectively. Minnesota Morris held off the Eagles offense and the final whistle blew with Northwestern ahead 5-0.Â
Nagbe took a total of three shots on the day, leading the Cougar offense. Reinhard made eleven saves for Minnesota Morris.Â
The Cougars will play at Bethany Lutheran College on Oct. 8 at 4:30 pm.Â
