Men’s Soccer Wins on the Road

NEW ULM, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Men's Soccer team traveled to New Ulm, Minn. for a matchup against Martin Luther College. The Cougars came away from the trip with a 3-1 victory over the Knights, earning a 4-7 UMAC record. 

Whitaker Root got the Cougar offense going early on the day, taking two shots on goal within the first twelve minutes of the game. He assisted in the first goal that the Cougars scored, finding teammate Brett Bartkowicz on a pass in the 12th minute. Bartkowicz found the back of the net to give Minnesota Morris a 1-0 lead. The Cougars continued to push the ball up the field, attacking the Knight's defense and taking shots. Cooper Jones scored the second goal of the match for the Cougars as Aaron Mackall found him in the 35th minute. With the Cougars up 2-0, the first half of the game retired.

Martin Luther fought to put a mark on the board in the second half, taking shots as early as in the 45th minute. The Cougars responded with their own shots at the Knight's net in an attempt to increase their lead. It was Martin Luther that scored the first goal of the half, finding the back of the net in the 61st minute. Minnesota Morris answered right back with a goal in the 68th minute. Jacob Lees found Tommy Ellis who slotted the ball to Mackall for a one-timer into the Knight's net. Despite effort from both teams, the remainder of the half was scoreless and the full-time score was 3-1 in favor of the Cougars.

Root and Bartkowicz each took four shots on goal, placing four and one on goal respectively. Theo Bubser took two shots for the Cougars. Goals came from Bartkowicz, Jones, and Mackall with assists from Root, Mackall, Ellis, and Lee respectively.
