Cougars Score 1 Against Northwestern

MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris battled with the University of Northwestern Eagles in a tough UMAC matchup. The Cougars came out of the day with a loss, advancing to 1-7-2 in conference play and 1-11-2 overall on the season.

Northwestern commanded possession of the ball early, committing two offside penalties before scoring their first goal in the 9th minute of the game. Johnette Nagbe responded with the first scoring attempt of the day for the Cougars, but missed the net. The Eagles scored their second goal before Minnesota Morris could take another shot, finding the back of the net in the 13th minute. Nibras Luqmna took the first shot on goal for the Cougars, but was foiled by the goalkeeper. The first goal of the half for Minnesota Morris came in the 40th minute. Greta Keffer found Hope Berscheit on a pass and Berscheit fired a shot into the back of the net to close the gap to 1-2. The remainder of the half was scoreless, and the Cougars trailed 1-2 going into halftime. 

The Eagles' third goal came early in the second half, happening in the 47th minute. Minnesota Morris was unable to get offensive momentum, and Northwestern knocked in their fourth goal of the game in the 73rd minute. Nagbe took the lone shot of the half in the 80th minute for the Cougars, but couldn't get the ball past the Eagles' goalkeeper. Northwestern solidified their win with a fifth goal in the 86th minute that went unanswered by the Cougars. The final whistle blew with the Eagles up 5-1 on the home team.

Nagbe, Bella Toth and Luqman each took two shots for the Cougars, with Nagbe and Luqman placing one shot on net. Berscheit had the lone goal of the game for Minnesota Morris, and Keffer earned an assist. 

The Cougars will take on North Central University Oct. 30 on Cougar Field. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 pm kick-off.
