MANKATO, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Cougars traveled to take on the Bethany Lutheran Knights in a competitive UMAC matchup.
The Cougars opened the attack on offense with a shot from Jacob Lee in the first minute that bounced off the woodwork and away from the Viking's net. Bethany Lutheran was quick to respond with multiple shots of their own that were saved by Nick Isensee in the goal for Minnesota Morris. Tommy Ellis took the second and last shot of the half for the Cougars but was foiled in his scoring attempt by the home team's keeper. The Vikings opened up the scoring for the day with a goal in the 22nd minute of the match. Despite continued attacks at the net from Bethany Lutheran, the Cougars stopped the Viking offense and the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.Â
Bethany Lutheran scored their second goal of the match in the 47th minute, followed by a third goal in the 57th minute. The fourth Viking goal was quick to follow, being scored in the 61st minute and giving Bethany Lutheran a substantial 4-0 lead over the Cougars. Aaron Mackall fired a shot off that was stopped by the Viking goalkeeper. The shot from Mackall would be the only one of the half for Minnesota Morris. Bethany Lutheran scored their fifth goal in the 69th minute of the match, and topped off their scoring with a sixth goal in the 77th minute. The Cougars struggled to respond on offense, and the match finished with the Vikings up 6-0.Â
Lee, Mackall, and Ellis had the three scoring attempts for the Cougars. Issensee made a total of eight saves in the net for Minnesota Morris in ninety minutes of play.
The Cougars continue their stretch of road games by heading up to the University of Wisconsin - Superior on Oct. 12 for a 1 pm kick-off.Â
