NEW ULM, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team traveled to New Ulm to take on the Martin Luther College Knights in a non-conference match up prior to the start of the conference season.
The Cougars attacked the net early in the game, starting in the fifth minute. Shots from Bella Toth, Maddy Anderson, and Chantel Peralta tested the Knights goalkeeper and defense, but did not result in goals for Minnesota Morris. The first, and only goal, of the game came at the 26 minute mark. The Knights were awarded a penalty kick which CJ Frear-Boerner was unable to stop. Despite continued shots from the Cougars off the feet of Sarah Kumher, Hope Berscheit, Jhazlyn Wynne, and Toth, Minnesota Morris were unable to even the score.
The second half brought continued action from the Cougar offense, with the team taking nine shots total and placing seven of those on goal. Despite a huge team effort, with scoring attempts from multiple individuals, Minnesota Morris failed to put a mark on the board.
Toth led the Cougars with eight shot attempts, placing five on goal. Anderson and Kuhmer both totaled three shots on the day, placing two and three on goal respectively. Frear-Boerner played all ninety minutes in net for the Cougars, making five saves.
Minnesota Morris women's soccer will take on the Martin Luther Knights again on Sep. 18th at home. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 pm for this UMAC match up
