Tough Day on the Field: Cougars Fall Short in Challenging Match

MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Men's Soccer team took on the University of Wisconsin - Superior Yellowjackets in their second UMAC match up of the season.

The Yellowjackets started the scoring early on in the match with a goal in the 6th and 9th minutes. The Cougar offense was unable to connect on a shot at the UW-Superior net, and fell further behind when the Yellowjackets put another shot in the back of the net in the 21st minute. With subs to spare, UW-Superior put in fresh legs and furthered their gap to 4-0 with a goal in the 31st minute. The Cougars were able to put a shot on goal that came from Aaron Mackall but the scoring attempt was unsuccessful.

Mackall continued to shoot at the net for Minnesota Morris in the second half. Despite the effort, the Cougars were unable to score. UW-Superiors continued attacks on offense earned them another goal in the 67th minute, pushing the score even further with a 0-5 lead. A sixth goal for the Yellowjackets in the 85th minute sealed the win for UW-Superior. Burke Sheppard landed one more shot, but was unsuccessful in scoring a goal.

Mackall ended the day with three shots, one of which was on goal. Sheppard took one shot on the day. Nick Issensee was in-net for the Cougars and came away with twelve saves for the Cougars.

Men's soccer will take to Cougar Field again on Sept. 24 for a 4:30 kick-off against Crown College.
