Women’s Soccer Takes on Defending UMAC Champs

MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Women's Soccer team battled it out against the University of Wisconsin - Superior in a thrilling UMAC match up.

The Yellowjackets rushed the Cougar defense early and snuck a goal into the net in the 1st minute of the game. Continuing to take shots on the Minnesota Morris net, UW-Superior was rewarded with a second goal in the 19th minute. A third goal in the 24th minute widened the gap for the Yellowjackets, putting the score up 3-0 in favor of UW-Superior. After a fourth goal in the 43rd minute, the game went into halftime up 4-0 on the Cougars. Despite two shots from Bella Toth, the Cougars struggled to score against the tough opponent.

Nagbe made a splash in her collegiate debut for the Minnesota Morris, scoring two goals in the second half in the 77th and 79th minute. Despite efforts from the UW-Superior offense, the half remained scoreless for them thanks to the Cougar defense and Danielle Reinhard in the net. The final whistle went off with a 4-2 score on the board in favor of the Yellowjackets. 

Nagbe took two shots and scored two goals for the home team. Toth finished the day off with three shots. Amiah LaFrinier, Fiona Chinavare, and Kayla Nelson all took one shot on the day. Frear-Boerner made seven saves.

The Cougars will take on Crown College on Sept. 24. The match is scheduled for a 2 pm kick-off on Cougar Field.
