MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Women's Soccer team played their second MIAC opponent of the year, this time on their home field in front of bleachers filled with Cougar fans.
Hamline University were the first to score in the match, finding the back of the net in the 13th minute. The Cougar goalie, CJ Frear-Boerner, stopped multiple shots from the Pipers, and managed to keep the score 1-0 until the 28th minute. An unassisted goal for Hamline put the score at 2-0, where it remained for the rest of the half thanks to the tough Cougar defense.
The scoring started early for the Pipers in the second half, as they knocked another unassisted goal into the net in the 48th minute of the game. The Cougars responded with a goal of their own in the 58th minute. Bella Toth launched the ball past the Hamline goalie to bring the score up to 3-1. Unfortunately, this would be the only goal of the game for Minnesota Morris. Hamline widened the gap to 4-1 in minute 69, and added one more to that in the 84th minute to bring them up 5-1 on the Cougars.
Frear-Boerner had 16 saves in the net for the Cougars. Toth, Sofia Montoya, and Maddy Anderson all had 1 shot on goal during the match.
Cougar Women's Soccer will take Cougar Field again on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in a 4PM match-up against the University of Wisconsin - River Falls.
