Baseball Holds Out Against the Terriers On Day 2

DAVENPORT, Flor. - The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team secured their first win of Spring Break against Thomas College. The Cougars scored four runs to the Terriers three to lead the way.

Minnesota Morris opened up the scoring first as David Steffen earned a hit in the top of the second and went all the way around the bases to give the Cougars an early lead. After a quick one-two-three inning for the offense, Minnesota Morris widened their lead in the top of the fourth. Tyler Motley and Steffen both scored on the same play to put the Cougars at a 3-0 advantage. Landen Meyerdirk led off for the Cougars in the top of the fifth, singling to center field and stealing second on Peyton Neadeau's at-bat. Neadeau dropped a single, bringing in Meyerdirk to score and put Minnesota Morris up four.

Thomas struggled to get on the board, finally putting up two points in the bottom of the seventh and adding one more in the bottom of the eighth. The Cougar defense was on point, keeping the Terriers at bay to secure the 4-3 victory.

Steffen led the Minnesota Morris offense, earning two runs and two hits in his four at-bats on the day. Meyerdirk added one run and two hits of his own, while Neadeau and Bradie Black each earned one hit. Neadeau also picked up the lone RBI of the day.

Luke McHugh was a force at first base for the Cougars, recording 17 put-outs for the defense. Ryan McGie earned the win for Minnesota Morris, pitching six innings and recording two strikeouts. Steffen came in from left field as the save pitcher for the Cougars.

The Cougars continue in Florida with an 11:30 AM (12:30 AM EDT) game against Nebraska Wesleyan University on March 11.
