A Big Sixth Inning Pushes Baseball to 6-5 Victory

DAVENPORT, Flor. - The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team secured their second victory in Florida, scoring the University of Wisconsin - River Falls to win 6-5. The Cougars advance to a 3-8 record, and will close out their spring break games with a double header against UMass Dartmouth.

The Falcons were the first to put marks on the board, dropping three quick runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an early lead. The Cougars, however, refused to let the game get away from them and scored three runs of their own in the top of the third. Keegan Jonas broke it open, crossing home plate on a wild pitch. Peyton Neadeau scored on the next play thanks to a Tyler Motley single. Motley then secured a run of his own on a clutch double from David Steffen to tie things up at 3-3. UW-River Falls responded with a run in the bottom of the third, and another one in the bottom of the fifth to sneak into a two run lead.

Bats started flying again for Minnesota Morris in the top of the sixth as Ethan Schmitz raced home on a single from Bradie Black. Landen Meyerdirk hit a crucial double on the next play to bring in Black and Jonas to score, giving the Cougars a 6-5 lead. Minnesota Morris kept the Falcons locked down on defense for the final three innings, securing the 6-5 lead heading into their final day in Florida.

Meyerdirk went 2-3 at the plate for the Cougar offense and secured two RBIs to assist in the win. Ryan McGie brought in 12 putouts at first base for the Minnesota Morris defense, while Josh Osten earned the win from the mound. Steffen came in in the final inning to earn the save for the Cougars.
