ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota rallied after a loss in game one to take game two against the University of Northwestern. The Cougars totaled up 19 hits in the day and nine runs in their advance to 3-2 in UMAC play. The Cougars will continue play against the Eagles Mar. 28 at 1 pm.
Northwestern 12, Minnesota Morris 6
The Eagles got the scoring rolling early in the first inning with one run to take an early lead. Minnesota Morris answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first, starting off with a score from
Bradie Black on a
Ben Meuser RBI.
David Steffen stepped up to the plate on the next play and launched a home run into the field to bring in Meuser and earn two RBIs. Northwestern was quick to tie things up and more, gaining an 8-3 lead by the top of the fourth.
Trevor Haberman kicked off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to close the scoring gap to four points. The Eagles' bats were flying as they knocked in four more runs to push their lead to 12-4. Minnesota Morris' fifth and sixth runs would come in the seventh and ninth innings, and were not enough to spark a rally from the Cougars.
Keegan Jonas was the one to score the fifth run, while
Tyler Moriarty raced into home for the sixth run.
Moriarty earned three hits at the plate for the Cougar offense, while Black and Haberman each earned two. Steffen led the offense with two RBIs for Minnesota Morris. Meuser totaled up seven putouts from first base for the Cougar defense.

Brady Kenning, and
Dane Mammenga all made appearances on the mound and totaled up seven strikeouts, 14 flyouts and five groundouts.
Minnesota Morris 3, Northwestern 2
The scoring opened late in game two, with the Cougars kicking things off in the bottom of the fifth. Moriarty crossed home plate on a single up the middle from Black to take a 1-0 lead. Haberman launched his second home run of the day to lead off the bottom of the sixth and give a 2-0 lead to Minnesota Morris. The Eagles tied up the game in the top of the seventh, but a run from Steffen on a sacrifice fly from
Peyton Neadeau secured the victory for the Cougars in the bottom of the eighth.
Ashton Pauly led the Cougar offense at the plate, going 2-3 on the day.
Landen Meyerdirk earned Minnesota Morris' lone stolen base in game two while Steffen and Haberman had the only doubles and home runs respectively. Jonas totaled up 10 putouts from behind home plate.
