AUBURNDALE, Flor. - The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team kicked off day two at the Russ Matt Invitational with a 5-9 loss to Drew University. The Cougars' misfortune continued into the afternoon with a 0-10 loss to Widener University in seven innings.Â

The Cougars put their first mark on the board in the bottom of the second when Ryan McGie led off the inning for Minnesota Morris with a home run. Down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third, the Cougars worked the bases until Landen Meyerdirk crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly from Luke McHugh. After going scoreless for two innings Minnesota Morris scored their third run of the day to close the scoring gap to 3-5. Peyton Neadeau stepped in to pinch run for the Cougars and scored a run on an RBI from Bradie Black. Tyler Motley was the next Cougar to score, making his way around the bases and cross home thanks to a wild pitch from the Drew pitcher. Minnesota Morris' final run was scored in the bottom of the ninth, and left them short of a victory at 5-9. Owen Dylong added the final run to the Cougars' score, coming in on a sacrifice fly from David Steffen.Â
Steffen finished the day with two hits in his five at-bats to lead Minnesota Morris. Keegan Jonas earned eight putouts on the day from behind the plate, while McGie added on another seven at first base.Â

Minnesota Morris baseball struggled against their tough opponent, giving up ten runs while being unable to score any of their own. The Cougars battled despite their struggles, holding Widener scoreless in the first, second, and fourth innings. Neadeau had the lone hit of the game for the Cougars and McHugh led the defense with five putouts at first base.
