MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team played their first game on Chizek Field, taking on the University of Wisconsin - Superior in game one of their UMAC series. Despite both teams earning eight hits, the Yellowjackets came away from the day with the 4-3 lead, breaking the tie between the two teams in conference standings. The action will continue between the two teams tomorrow, Apr. 19, at 1 pm on Chizek field.

After three scoreless innings, the Cougars were the first to score in the fourth inning on a solo home run from Bradie Black to take a 1-0 lead. UW-Superior responded in the next half innings with four runs to jump out to a 4-1 lead. Minnesota Morris scored again in the sixth on a double from Trevor Haberman that brought in Black to score his second run of the day. Tyler Moriarty scored the final run in the seventh and, despite battling hard at the plate in the eighth and ninth innings, the Cougars took an unfortunate loss to open the series. 

Black and David Steffen both went 2-4 at the plate for Minnesota Morris with Black adding on two RBIs. He also raced his way to two stolen bases while Peyton Neadeau earned one. At first base and catcher respectively, Ben Meuser and Keegan Jonas contributed to 10 putouts on the day for the defense. Aiding the Cougars from the mound, Josh Osten and Breckin Silvain totaled up 10 strikeouts, eight flyouts, and nine groundouts.
