MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The University of Minnesota Morris Women's Soccer team was defeated 4-0 by Cornell College on Sunday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
The Rams improve to 2-1, while the Cougars drop to 1-3-1.
"We're really proud of our overall effort this last week and a half," said head coach
Emma Morris. "Playing five games in nine days is an incredibly tough task, especially when we have so few players available. Now we have time to recover and get our head back up. They have done everything we've asked and more, some of these results were not reflective of the game played and today is another example. CJ had another great game in net, and hopefully we can get everyone back to full health soon."
The Rams struck early, netting the first goal just 3:31 into the game. The Cougars began to create some chances at the other end, with
Hope Berscheit firing a shot on frame. The first half was evenly contested, with both teams recording four shots on target.
Johnette Nagbe and
Brianna Ganske also tested the keeper in the opening frame.
Nagbe had the first shot of the second half but sent it over the crossbar.
CJ Frear-Boerner was called into action soon after, making a pair of saves. Late in the half, the Rams scored three goals in five minutes to seal the 4-0 win.
The Cougars totaled five shots on target, with Nagbe leading the team with three. Ganske and Berscheit each added one. Frear-Boerner made eight saves in the loss.
The Cougars return home for their next game on Sept. 11, hosting Hamline University at 5 p.m.
