MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team won its first game of the season, defeating North Central University 2-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon in Morris, Minn.

The Cougars had control early, with
Brianna Ganske recording the first shot of the game.
CJ Frear-Boerner made her first save of the contest in the 14th minute.
Amiah LaFrinier had a shot from deep, but it was saved.
Jhazlyn Wynne and
Tessa Humphreys each tested the keeper, but the Cougars remained scoreless. Minnesota Morris finally broke the seal after Ganske got on the deflected shot from
Rourke Nebel in the 33rd minute.
Madysen Johnson added two more shots before the half was over as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Minnesota Morris doubled its lead four minutes into the second half, with Ganske scoring her second goal of the game. The Cougars kept the pressure up, keeping their foot on the gas. Ganske had a chance for the hat trick, but two shots were deflected by the goalkeeper and hit off the crossbar. The Cougars held the lead to win 2-0.
Ganske scored her first goal of the season and then added her second 16 minutes later. Nebel recorded her first point of the season on an assist. Minnesota Morris outshot the Rams 26-3. Ganske led the team with nine shots, with six on target. Frear-Boerner recorded her first clean sheet of the season, making three saves.
The Cougars host Crown College on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. contest.
