MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris has expanded its athletic department with the addition of four new assistant coaches.
 
Stephanie Witbrod
Stephanie Witbrod was hired as the assistant cross country and track and field coach. Prior to Minnesota Morris, Witbrod was the jumps and sprints coach at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial. She also coached gymnastics for four years.
 
"Stephanie is going to have a major impact at UMN Morris as an assistant cross country and track & field coach," said Athletic Director Matt Johnson. "Stephanie's success as a six‑time NCAA Division III national qualifier and multi‑time Upper Midwest Athletic Conference athlete of the year speaks to her exceptional talent, discipline, and competitive drive. She brings a deep understanding of what it takes to excel at the collegiate level, and her experience coaching jumps and sprints will make an immediate impact on our program. Stephanie's leadership, energy, and student‑athlete perspective make her a tremendous addition to Cougar XC and Track & Field."
 
Witbrod competed collegiately at Bethany Lutheran College in indoor and outdoor track and field. She qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships six times, three times in the triple jump and three times in the shot put. Witbrod earned UMAC Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year honors four times and was named Second Team All-American in shot put.
 
"I am super excited to come back to the UMAC and be up here at Morris," stated Witbrod. "I did my athletic career at Bethany and now get to start my coaching career at Morris!  For being the Jumps Coach, I am so excited to start working with the current and new athletes along with the amazing coaching staff here!  Coach Campbell and Coach Collet have created an amazing atmosphere here and I cannot wait to get started!"
 
Trevor Hegranes
Trevor Hegranes was named the new assistant volleyball coach for Minnesota Morris ahead of the 2026 season. For the last five years, Hegranes has served as a volleyball coach for Minnesota Select, where he helped refine the skills of athletes. Hegranes also spent time coaching at Eden Prairie High School and Coon Rapids High School.
 
"I am excited to welcome Trevor Hegranes to UMN Morris as our new assistant volleyball coach," said Johnson. "Trevor brings a powerful blend of leadership, communication skill, and athlete‑centered development that aligns perfectly with our volleyball program's values. He has outstanding experience guiding student‑athletes at Minnesota Select and multiple high‑school programs. Trevor's passion for teaching, motivating, and supporting student-athletes makes him an outstanding addition to Cougar Volleyball."  
 
Hegranes earned a degree in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University.
 
"I am honored to step into the role of Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach here at Morris," said Hegranes. "Coach Joe runs a great program, so it's a blessing to be given the opportunity to join the staff. I'm really looking forward to the season because I think there is a great culture here and an incredible opportunity for even more success!"
 
Richard Stock
Richard Stock was appointed as the new assistant baseball coach for the Cougars. Previously he was an instructor at South State Sports in Ann Arbor, Mich., where he worked with both pitchers and hitters. Prior to coaching, Stock played professionally. In 2012, he was drafted by Cleveland and played in the organization's farm system for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Lake County Captains.
 
"I am thrilled to welcome Richard Stock to UMN Morris as our new assistant baseball coach," stated Johnson. "Richard brings an exceptional blend of professional playing experience, championship pedigree, and a deep commitment to developing student‑athletes. From his time in the Cleveland organization to earning All‑Big Ten honors at Nebraska, he has excelled at every level of the game. His coaching background and passion for teaching will further elevate our program. I can't wait to see the impact he'll make on Cougar Baseball."
 
In college, Stock both pitched and caught for the USC Trojans. He was also a catcher for the Santa Barbara Foresters, helping lead the team to a National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series championship. He finished his collegiate career at the University of Nebraska, where he earned All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Tournament Team honors.
 
"I am excited to join Coach O'Brien's staff, and to bring my experience, commitment, and passion to an already successful program," said Stock.
 
Stock graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from Nebraska and earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing from the University of Michigan.
 
Krystal Kemp
 
Krystal Kemp was hired as the new assistant softball coach for Minnesota Morris. Prior to UMM, she served as an assistant softball coach at Southern Virginia University. During the 2025 season, she helped lead the team to a fifth-place finish in the USA South Conference. Kemp also served as a graduate assistant coach at Randolph College in 2024.
 
"I am very happy to welcome Krystal Kemp to UMN Morris as an assistant softball coach," stated Johnson. "Krystal brings an outstanding blend of hitting and pitching expertise, player development experience, and a calm, confident leadership style that resonates with student‑athletes. Her background as an Academic All‑American and USA South First Team All‑Conference performer reflects both her excellence on the field and her commitment to high standards. Krystal's ability to mentor student-athletes, and build individualized development plans will immediately strengthen our softball program. We're excited for the impact her energy, knowledge, and competitive drive will have on Cougar Softball."  
 
Kemp played four seasons at Southern Virginia. During her senior season, she was named to the USA South First Team All-Conference. She finished her career as the program's all-time leader in hits, RBIs, and home runs. She also recorded 151 career strikeouts in the circle.
 
"I'm incredibly excited to join the University of Minnesota Morris and grateful for the opportunity to continue my coaching career here," said Kemp. "Throughout the hiring process, I was really impressed by the people I met and immediately felt welcomed and at home. I'm excited to be part of such a strong softball program and look forward to working with our student-athletes and seeing what we can accomplish together this upcoming season."
 
Kemp graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a coaching concentration from Southern Virginia and earned a master's degree in coaching and sport leadership from Randolph College.
