St. Paul, Minn. – The University of Minnesota, Morris women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Northwestern today (Oct. 22), as an Eagle corner kick provided the difference.
The two teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0, but it was not for a lack of chances. The Cougars fired off five shots in the first half, while the Eagles came out shooting as well and notched five in the first 45 minutes.
The Cougars also had six first half corner kicks, compared to just three for Northwestern. The Eagles also had three corners in the second half, which ultimately was what did the Cougars in. At the 66:59 mark, a play that began as a Northwestern corner resulted in the match's only score.
The Cougars continued to pressure the Eagles, with eight more shots in the second half, but all 11 of their shots on goal were stopped as UMM lost their second straight.
Leah Parker (Minnetonka, Minn.) led the way with four shots, while she and Rachel Harstad (Hampton, Minn.) each had three shots on goal. In the net, Emily Jacob (Minneapolis) stopped four shots in the loss.
The Cougars will now make the short trip to Crown on Oct. 23 to wrap up the road trip.
