Women's Soccer Falls 5-0 to Simpson

The UMM women’s soccer team fell 5-0 to Simpson at the St. Catherine Invite.

Taylor Meehan led the Cougars with four shots.

St. Paul, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team wrapped up play at the St. Catherine Invitational today (Sept. 12), falling 5-0 to Simpson College.

The Cougars finish 0-2 in St. Paul on the weekend, and have now lost three straight. Taylor Meehan (Alexandria, Minn.) continued to lead the charge for the Cougars, taking a team high four shots on the day, with two landing on net.

Zoe Bergstrom (Westminster, Colo.) had both of her shots make it to the net and Leah Parker (Minnetonka, Minn.) also fired off two shots on the day. Simpson outshot Minnesota Morris 25-to-9 in the match and held a 15-to-6 advantage in shots on goal.

All five of Simpson's goals came from different players, with only one coming in the first half. The Storm scored midway through the first half and led just 1-0 at the intermission.

In the second half, an 11-minute scoring flurry produced four goals and put the game away. From 63:03 to 73:58 packed in their final four scores for a 5-0 that was insurmountable.

Now at 1-4, the Cougars will open conference play next weekend, and get to return to the friendly confines of Cougar Field, back at UMM. Crown and Northwestern each visit Morris on Sept. 17 at 2:00 p.m. and Sept. 18 at 12:00 p.m. respectively.
