Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris men's cross country team took third place at the Bethany Lutheran Invite on Oct. 8.
This is the first conference meet of the season and the warm-up for next week's conference tournament. Martin Zais (Hudson, Wis.) was the top runner for the Cougars as he finished in fifth place with a time of 28:58.9. On Zais' race, head coach Jeremy Karger Gatzow said “Martin ran a consistent race and battled back and forth with a small pack of runners to finish fifth.”
Charles Abraham (Cambridge, Minn.) finished in 11th place with a time of 29:55.0, Karger Gatzow said “Charlie raced smart by starting conservatively and gradually moving up in place.” Greg Schumacher took a seventeenth place, by finishing the course in 30:43.6.
Bailey Denzer (Monticello, Minn.) was able to improve his personal record 40 seconds, by finishing with a time of 32:24.4.
Other competitors for the Cougars were Daniel Tiernan (Morris, Minn.) who finished with a time of 31:05.6. Declan McCrory (Plymouth, Minn.) had a time of 31:27.0, and Kyle Billett (Isanti, Minn.) rounded out the Cougars with a time of 33:40.6.
The third place finish was the best finish for the Cougars this season.
Next up for the Cougars is the annual UMAC Championship on Oct. 29 in Mankato, Minn.
