Late Header Spoils Solid Effort

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. - The Cougars (0-2) faced Augsburg (3-0), a team that came in averaging nine goals per match, on Monday, but that did not seem to intimidate them. They battled hard against the Auggies, showing great resolve after falling 4-0 to Central College on Saturday afternoon. The match was tied at zero, thanks to goal keeper Torri Jordan, until late in the contest. An 87th minute header by the Auggies' Marie Fitzgerald proved to be the difference in the match.

Augsburg came in to the contest looking to score early for the third straight match; they scored in the opening minute in both their matches this past week. Morris turned it on them early, controlling a decent amount of possession in the opening five minutes of play. Jordan made a few saves in the minutes following but the Cougars only allowed three more shots on net the rest of the half. Lindsay Clay had her shot saved 12th minute, it was the Cougars only shot on goal in the match.

There were some nervous moments for the Cougars in the middle portion of the second half but the defense and Jordan kept the Auggies off the board. The Minnesota Morris defense did well making sure Augsburg did not get a lot of great looks on net and blocked two shots in the second half.

In the 87th minute Molly Allen hit a great cross across the frame of goal and it found the head of Fitzgerald who put it past Jordan for the lone goal in the match.
