MORRIS, Minn. – After securing a 20 win season for the fourth straight year the Cougars (20-11) now move into post-season play. Tomorrow night Morris will host Wisconsin-Superior (18-13) in the UMAC Semifinals at 7 p.m. This will be the third matchup with the YellowJackets this season, UMM won the first two by scores of 3-0 and 3-1.
Sophomore
Marissa Ekness needs seven kills to set a new school for most kills in a single season. She leads the UMAC with 463 kills on the season, spearheading the Cougars offense, nationally she ranks ninth.
Ekness is not the lone Cougar in the nationally rankings.
Brooke Decker is 23
rd in the country in assists per set,
Katie Reitsma is 39
th in digs per set and
Abby Tietz is 69
th in kills per set. These four have been the core for the Cougars in 2015 and if Morris is going to punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament they will need to be ready to perform again, starting tomorrow night in the P.E. Center.
As a team the Cougars are hitting .199 as a team, .001 shy of their magic number in 2015. Morris is nearly undefeated when they .200 in a match, winning 19 of 20 on the year whne they reach that mark. The only match the Cougars won when failing to reach the .200 mark this season was against Wisconsin-Superior.
If the Cougars can win tomorrow evening they would advance to Saturday's UMAC Championship for a third consecutive season. The other UMAC Semifinal features St. Scholastica at Northwestern.
