MORRIS, Minn. –Minnesota Morris took care of Simpson College 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 to start their day. They stayed perfect in the tournament by beating Bethany Lutheran 25-19, 25-11, 25-21 soon after. On the weekend Morris went 4-0 with four sweeps, they were the only team to go undefeated on the weekend.
Marissa Ekness led the offense with 11 kills and
Cori Becker added ten. The team hit .293 in the match thanks in part to 27 assists from
Brooke Decker.
Abby Tietz had eight kills, three digs and three aces.
Katie Reitsma had 13 digs to lead the defense. Morris held the Pipers to just .065 hitting on the afternoon.
The Cougars led 7-5 early but the Pipers put up a fight, coming back to take a 15-13 lead. Morris would dig in after that and finish the set on 12-2 run. The second set was also tight early but UMM extended their lead to five midway through and then finished by scoring seven of the final eight points in the set. Minnesota Morris took a five point lead early in the third set and Hamline never threatened as UMM won the set 25-17.
Ekness was again a force in the second match of the day going for 14 kills while hitting .444.
Alyssa Houselog had five kills and three blocks. Bethany was held to just .090 hitting on the afternoon.
Morris went up 15-9 in set one before picking up the 25-19. It was all UMM in the second set jumping out a 7-1 lead and pushing it as much as 15 before the win. In set three the Cougars made a couple changes in the lineup but still won by four.
