Box Score

Morris, Minn. - The University of Minnesota, Morris women's soccer team ended in a 0-0 double-overtime draw, hosting Bethany Lutheran College today (Oct. 1), out at Cougar Field.

In a tough defensive battle, the Cougars were able to make their chances, outshooting the Vikings 17-to-8 in the match.

Minnesota, Morris (3-6-1, 2-2-1) was outshot 3-to-2 in the first half, but controlled the play to the tune of a 9-to-5 shot advantage in the second half. At the end of scoreless regulation, the Cougars kept the pressure, taking six shots to the Vikings none in the two extra sessions.

Bethany Lutheran (5-1-2, 1-0-2) was kept in the game by goalkeeper Alexa Mowrey who came up with six big saves on the day. She made three saves in overtime, including two in the second overtime, to preserve the shutout and tie.

Cougar goalkeeper Emily Jacob (Minneapolis) nets her second shutout of the season, with both coming in conference play as she held Crown off the board in the opening weekend. However, the story of the day was the defense that limited the Viking offense to just two shots that reached Jacob.

On the other end, the offense was paced by Leah Parker (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Zoe Bergstrom (Westminster, Colo.) as it had been all year. The junior-freshman combo, teamed up for seven total shots, and five of the Cougars six shots on goal.

Parker, the team leader in shots and goals, took a game high four shots, while Bergstrom had a game high three shots on goal, watching all of her attempts reach the net.

The Cougars also held a distinct edge in corners with a 10-to-3 advantage, but also out-fouled the Vikings by a 12-to-6 edge.

Up next for the Cougars is a noon meeting with Martin Luther tomorrow (Oct. 2), back at Cougar field.
