Box Score

Morris, Minn. – The University of Minnesota, Morris women's soccer team had to work a little extra today (Oct. 16) for their 1-0 win over Northland, breaking the scoreless tie in the final minute of overtime.

Minnesota, Morris (6-6-2, 6-2-2 UMAC) put up 22 shots while limiting Northland (4-10-0, 3-6-0) to only three, but landed just nine on net, and only six in regulation.

The deciding blow came in with the clock ticking down in the first overtime, when Leah Parker (Minnetonka, Minn.) took a perfectly placed outlet pass from Zoe Bergstrom (Westminster, Colo.) up the center of the field and out-sprinted the LumberJill defense for a breakaway goal that ended the game.

The goal was Parker's team leading ninth, and gave the Cougars their third straight win, their longest stretch of the season. Bergstrom took a game high five shots in the match, while Parker finished with three.

Katie Kestner (Phoenix, Ariz.) had four shots in the match, as seven different Cougars had multiple shots on the day.

The Cougar offense continually gave themselves chances in regulation, but crosses to the center were left unconnected, and shots in the box went just off the mark. When the Cougars were on frame, LumberJill goalkeeper Sarah Weed did her best to keep her team alive finishing with eight saves on the day.

The Cougars will now see if they can stretch their five-game unbeaten streak to six, with a home date with St. Scholastica on Oct. 17. The Cougars and league-leading Saints are set to kick off at 2:00 pm
