Morris, Minn. - The University of Minnesota, Morris women's soccer team notched their second straight tie today (Oct. 2), coming back for a 1-1 draw with Martin Luther.

Martin Luther scored first, but held their 1-0 lead for just moments as Minnesota, Morris answered just seven minutes later.  Trailing 1-0, the Cougars' Meghan Laird (St. Michael, Minn.) was able to corral a loose ball in front of the net and slip it past the Knight goalkeeper for the tying score.

The goal for the Cougars was a long-time-coming, as they grossly outshot the Knights to the tune of a 28-to-6 advantage. In controlling the play, UMM also took an amazing 20 corner kicks, to just two for MLC.

The Cougars had five corners in the first five minutes, and kept the pressure on for the remainder of the match. They finished with nine in the first half and added seven in the second and four in overtime on their way to 20.

The Cougars had 23 shots, and five in overtime, racking up their 28 on the day. The Knights were held to three, two and one shots in the first half, second half and overtime respectively, but put five of the six shots on goal.

Rachel Harstad (Hampton, Minn.) led the Cougars and notched a game high eight shots, as well as three on goal which tied with Laird for the game high.

Four different Cougars finished with four or more shots, including five from Zoe Bergstrom (Wesminster, Colo.).

After a 0-0 tie yesterday against Bethany Lutheran, the Cougars tie again.  Since the opening of league play, UMM has won back-to-back, lost back-to-back and now tied back-to-back.

At 3-6-2 and 2-2-2 in UMAC play, the Cougars will look to get back in the win column on Oct. 8, when they host Presentation at 1:30 p.m.
